Entry 1[]

Unlock: To unlock, complete the mission "In the Eye of the Beholder".

Otakemaru is considered one of Japan's three greatest yokai, alongside Tamamo-no-Mae and Shuten Doji. He appears in legends as a demon god who resided in the Suzuka Mountains along the border of Ise and Omi Provinces. He is said to have possessed great supernatural power, with the ability to fly, summon storms, or even cause fire to rain down from the sky. By order of the emperor, Otakemaru was eventually killed by Sakanoue no Tamuramaro, and his remains sealed in Byodo-In. It was said that Otakemaru could never be killed as long as he had his three holy swords, and since the swords were capable of repairing themselves in the event of them being damaged, Otakemaru was essentially invincible.

Entry 2[]

Unlock: To unlock, defeat Otakemaru x2.

Kashin Koji, the mysterious man whose red eyes each contain three pupils, was really a form of Otakemaru who was sealed, who was sealed in Byodo-In. The seal containing Otakemaru was weakened due to the ongoing war, allowing a small amount of his Anima to escape and coalesce into the form of Kashin Koji. Acting in the shadows, Kashin Koji's goal was to set his true self free. Otakmaru was once persecuted by humanity, leading to his vehement hatred for the entire human race. There is no doubt that if ever a day would come when Otakemaru escaped his prison, he would not hesitate to kill every living soul in Japan.

=== Entry 3 ===

Unlock: To unlock, defeat Otakemaru x3.

The three swords Otakemaru wields are known collectively as the Sanmyoken. The Sanmyoken is made up of Daitoren, Shotoren, and Kenmyoren, and three swords are considered treasures of the heavens themselves. It is said that Otakemaru's ability to summon lightning or fire from the sky is due to the power that resides within these holy swords. If this theory proves true, it may perhaps be possible to predict which of his attacks he will use next depending on the sword he holds in his hand.

Location[]

Kashin Koji is fought in Cherry Blossom Viewing in Daigo, immediately after defeating Tokichiro.

Otakemaru is the game's final boss, fought in In the Eye of the Beholder. He also appears in Calamity's Pulse. In The First Samurai, he is fought partway through Dawn of the Demon.

Behavior[]

Kashin Koji attacks by swinging his staff, teleporting and striking, firing volleys of souls, and using multiple elemental attacks. He uses flame waves, lightning blasts, and swings an ice club for a Burst. If the ice club misses, he will strike again. He also causes poison globs to rain. When he summons the Dark Realm, he creates multiple shadow clones of himself that dissipate in a single hit. When he is defeated, he will shortly after get back up at full health and summon the Dark Realm, fighting with increased vigor.

Otakemaru starts by changing into the Yokai Shift form based on the player's primary Guardian Spirit. He attacks with modified versions of the Yokai Shift attacks. As his health is depleted, he will change between these forms until his health is at about 40%. At this point, he transforms into his true form. He uses one of his three swords to use element-imbued slashes and explosions. When near death, he unleashes his final form and all three swords are active at once, allowing for a deadly sword rain and a spinning sword combo along with a grapple. He can only be defeated using the Sohayamaru finisher. In Calamity's Pulse, he starts in his final form.

Weak Spot & Tactics[]

Kashin Koji can be difficult, but fortunately, you don't have to refight Tokichiro should you lose to him. He can be difficult to stagger, especially during his melee combos, so don't try to interrupt him or you will eat a lot of damage. When he summons the shadow clones, either use a wide-ranged Yokai Skill or switch to Low Stance and mow them down quickly, or they will be a real problem. Save your strength for his second phase.

Otakemaru's fight is best dealt with quickly. Masaru will spawn to attack Otakemaru and spawn Amrita pickups, allowing you to use Yokai Shift more quickly. The Feral form is, again, difficult due to its speed and aggression, but the Phantom form's multi-hit attacks can also cause trouble. In the final phase, take him down fast so you see less of his deadlier attacks. Of his elemental explosions, the water explosion is the most dangerous because getting hit will mean you will eat a lot more damage, so start running when he does it. Unload with everything you've got, then pull off the finisher.
